Extra Long Mourning Dove Series
Peter Hurley designed the original Mourning Dove series feeder (10 pounds of capacity) 6 years ago
at the request of a Texas customer and is now one of our most popular and well thought out feeders.
The two Extra Long Mourning Doves offered here are derivatives of the this feeder. Each has been
extended an extra 5" and gained 3" in width. The oversized roof (31" x 18") provides extreme
weather protection to the supersized hopper holding nearly 16 pounds of seed.
Each feeder has hopper-end seed ports for directing feed to the platform's ends. Seed splitters have been installed in the hopper bases to keep seed flowing until near empty. A full length brass plated hinge and
solid brass hook and eye latch for the roof keep the seed dry and safe.

Each Extra Long Mourning Dove includes a heavy duty Large Pole Mount to secure it to your 4x4 post. Add an Oversized Seed Catcher Tray (will build to match feeder when ordered, allow 3 days) to round out the feeding station. Our Oversized Seed Catcher Tray is an excellent addition. The regular sized Seed Tray is 20" wide and 30" long and too small for these feeders. The Oversized Seed Catcher offered here is 24" wide, 32" long and gives your birds a second chance at fallen seed, saving you money.
More importantly, the tray offers a large flat area for birds preferring an open feeding area.

What's a Million Bird Byrd Feeder you ask?
Simple. It's an extremely big, bold, beautiful feeder crafted so well it lasts for decades and will feed a million birds. Peter Hurley's Million Bird Byrd Feeders are exactly that. Handcrafted by Peter (Hurley-Byrd's founder and owner) with his decades of bird feeder knowledge and exemplary woodworking skills. He has brought together our finest, sturdiest cedar and Appalachian hardwoods to produce these incredible feeders. Each Million Bird Byrd Feeder has 28 pounds of capacity (conservatively) and is supported by a massive solid black cherry 4x4 mount. If you have been looking for that ultimate birding gift for the birder that has it all, look no further. These are the best of the best in the country, maybe the world.
Each Million Bird Byrd Feeder is 35" in length, 22" in width and 18" in height (with mount) and holds a tremendous amount of seed in a 23" x 11" x 11" hopper which is attached to a 30" x 15" base platform. The base, vertical sides and roof are crafted using one inch thick premium grade western red cedar, assembled with solid brass screws throughout and brass plated roof hinges. The only non brass screws are the screws attaching the roof to the vertical sides. Peter used HUGE (number 14 x 4") stainless steel screws for extra longevity and rigidity. At each end of the hopper are twin seed ports feeding seed to the platform's ends. This end feeding area adds twice the amount of viewing to the overall feeder and gives refuge for the smaller birds from the larger, more aggressive birds. Plus gleaner birds (birds that pick seeds from crevices like the Nuthatch) love pulling seed form the ports themselves. The oversized 4x4 post mount was built using Appalachian Mountain black cherry which is gorgeous, strong and long lasting.
Each Million Bird Byrd Feeder has been signed, dated and serialized by Peter Hurley and are backed with a 10 year warranty. We actually expect these feeders to last 15 to 20 years with no maintenance. Add a little maintenance along the way such as coating with deck stain, checking/tightening the screws, etc.. we believe these feeders will last in excess of 30 years. Do the math. If you conservative estimate 100 birds feed from this feeder per day multiplied by 365 days multiplied by 30 years......you get near 1.1 million birds. That's a lot of birds and makes these feeders an excellent investment in your birding hobby.

One in a single traditional style hopper and one in a split hopper configuration.
These feeders are complicated and time consuming to craft and consume a tremendous amount of material.
There is no doubt Peter will build more but when is the question? Once these two are gone, it may be a long time until they are replaced. If you would like a Million Bird Byrd Feeder, order as soon as possible.

The Split Hopper Feeder
This incredible feeder has duel opening roofs each with their own hinge and hook & eye latch. An acrylic hopper separator runs through the center length of the hopper and is set vertically from roof peak to seed splitter in the base. The acrylic separator is actually imbedded in both the roof peak and seed splitter so it will positively remain in place for years. Since each side of the feeder has its own hopper, it can be filled with two seed types to attract a wider variety of birds. Furthermore, feeders are typically
set up so one long side of the feeder faces a viewing area. This "front side" can now be filled with a higher quality seed while the backside hopper is filled with a lesser seed which will enticing your birds to feed on the front for better viewing.

Regular Style Hopper Feeder - If you wish to call it that.
This feeder has a more traditional single opening roof with a hook and eye latch for positive closure. Like the feeder above, it has 1/4" thick acrylic sheeting for the hopper and is based on the same sizes as the matriarch. It also has a seed splitter installed to help direct the seed to the feeding areas and twin seed ports to direct seed to the ends of the platform. Comes with a massive solid black cherry pole mount to fit your 4x4 post.
